Global temperature rises are linked to cumulative emissions, which means the journey to net zero is just as important as the destination. Thus the robustness of interim net zero targets, which signpost that journey, are a critical component of the ultimate commitment and must be fit for purpose.

In this paper, we dig into the interim net zero targets set by asset managers, working through the complexity and wide variation in approach, to assess whether these targets map out an effective route to the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative’s defined destination of limiting global warming to 1.5C.
