World Leaders must make the financial sector step up to deliver a fossil fuel exit strategy. Commenting on what should be achieved at today's finance day at COP 28, Lewis Johnston, Director of Policy at ShareAction, said:

“The root of the global climate crisis lies in the continued addiction to fossil fuels as our primary source of energy. New and existing coal, gas and oil are funded directly or indirectly through financial institutions like banks.

“World leaders must agree on a clear exit strategy that will end dependence on fossil fuels. We need measures that incentivise the financial sector to support the energy solutions that will protect the future of people and planet.”
