Deliveroo board challenged on low pay and poor working conditions

(Wednesday 24th May) Today Deliveroo riders, co-ordinated by ShareAction and the IWGB trade union attended the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) in London and challenged the board on the issues of low pay and job insecurity.

Commenting on the outcome of the AGM questions, Dan Howard, Head of Good Work at ShareAction said: “CEO Will Shu’s responses were tone deaf to the plight of the riders who showed up today.

By dodging the issue of adequate pay and conditions for vulnerable workers in a cost-of-living crisis, they risk damaging their reputation with both customers and their investors.

If the company fails to act decisively to better protect its staff and address the risks created by their current business model for investors, they can expect to see greater pressure from shareholders.”
