Carl Liederman to be next Chair of responsible investment NGO ShareAction

ShareAction, the leading responsible investment NGO based in London and Brussels, has appointed Carl Liederman as Chair Designate of its Board of Trustees. Carl is an international corporate lawyer with extensive leadership and governance experience and is due to take over when the current Chair Paul Dickinson stands down from the board in August 2023.

Carl Liederman said: “For years, I have respected and admired the work of ShareAction to define and raise standards of responsible investment across the world. I am honoured to be ShareAction’s Chair Designate and look forward to working with the team and the board to encourage the world’s largest private investors to play their part in tackling the most pressing global challenges from climate change to poor health.”

“ShareAction’s blend of in-depth research into the financial sector’s performance on environmental, social and governance issues, its powerful advocacy to reform regulation, and its credibility with investors give it a highly distinctive opportunity within the NGO sector to deliver positive impact in the coming years. I’m delighted to have the chance to help the organisation deliver fully on that opportunity.”

Catherine Howarth OBE, Chief Executive of ShareAction, said: “I’m excited to work with Carl and to welcome him to ShareAction. He brings a passion for responsible investment and a wealth of experience from the commercial and charity sectors that will be of immense value to our mission.

“I’d also like to offer my fulsome thanks to Paul Dickinson for his insight and support over the nine years he has served on the board. He’s made a profound contribution through a period of rapid growth. We will miss his humour and enthusiasm greatly.”

ShareAction has also appointed its Director of Corporate Campaigns, Simon Rawson, to the newly created role of Deputy Chief Executive. ShareAction has doubled in size over the last three years, due to an increase in charitable grants from trusts and foundations and growing interest in how responsible investment can drive the transition to net zero economies and build fairer, healthier societies.
