(Monday 23rd December) ShareAction, the leading responsible investment NGO based in London and Brussels, is today announcing the appointment of Alice Steenland as the new Chair of its Board of Trustees, effective from 2 January 2025, following her five-year tenure as a trustee.
Alice was selected by fellow trustees to take over as Chair from Carl Liederman, who has recently relocated to the US, and has decided to step down from the board with effect from 1 January 2025, after two years of dedicated and committed service to ShareAction.
Carl Liederman said: “It was a great honour and a privilege to serve as Chair of ShareAction and I would like to thank Catherine, the leadership team, and the board for their faith and trust in me during my tenure.”
Catherine Howarth OBE, Chief Executive of ShareAction, said: “Carl has made a major contribution to ShareAction as Chair. We have benefited from his professional expertise as a lawyer, his deep involvement with civil society, and his profound personal commitment to tackling the environmental and social crises at the heart of ShareAction’s mission.”
“I am delighted about Alice’s appointment as our Board Chair. It’s been a pleasure and privilege to work with Alice for the last five years, a period of service to the organisation that sets her up brilliantly for this leadership role. I look forward to all we will accomplish together.”
Alice, whose four-year term as Chair begins on 2 January 2025, has a wealth of experience in sustainability and strategy, currently serving as Chief Strategy, Sustainability & Marketing Officer at Signify. She previously led sustainability efforts at AXA and other global firms.
Alice serves on the Advisory Board of the impact fund Giant Ventures and is a guest lecturer at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. She holds US and French citizenship and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.
Alice said: “I am looking forward to continuing to support ShareAction in its work to build a financial system that serves our planet and its people. This work is more important than ever, and ShareAction’s continued leadership in this space positions the organisation to make real impact in this critical period. I would like to thank the Board of Trustees for their trust as we embark on this journey together.”
