Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Fundraising Manager to cover maternity leave. ShareAction is a growing charity working in an area that is attracting increased attention from a variety of philanthropic trusts and foundations as well as individual donors across the UK, EU and, increasingly, the USA.

This maternity cover contract will enable you to experience new and exciting trends in impact philanthropy and gain exposure to philanthropic institutions and individuals worldwide. You will also gain exposure to major donor fundraising and fundraising from individual donors more broadly.

This role will suit an accomplished and experienced trust/foundation and/or major donor manager, able to work to established targets over a time limited contract. The role also gives the opportunity to manage a small but experienced and enthusiastic team of one senior fundraiser and one fundraising assistant.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Although your role will be varied and open to some change in the activities you will undertake, below are the types of activities that you can expect to be doing:

  • Leading on, or being a key contributor to, securing major multi-year programme grants from UK, EU and global foundations and trusts, major annual grants and core grants;
  • Managing the Major Donor ‘Ambassadors’ programme to increase unrestricted income, leading on the research, cultivation and stewardship of donors and prospects;
  • Leading on the development of fundraising from ShareAction supporters, including recruitment, retention and trade-up opportunities, including working across teams (digital communications and networks) to cross sell fundraising asks;
  • Leading on ensuring a co-ordinated and collaborative organisational approach to fundraising, capacity building amongst our trustees and staff members and keeping the whole team up to date regarding new opportunities and identifying/communicating next steps;
  • Managing the Senior Fundraising Officer and the Fundraising Assistant by overseeing and supporting them in the successful execution of their roles via established management and HR mechanisms, and overseeing high quality donation and record management via internal systems, e.g. Salesforce;
  • Cultivating and maintaining positive funding relationships through timely reports and updates, meetings and events as appropriate;
  • Taking a strategic approach to identifying and researching prospects and exploring opportunities for raising income for new and existing programmes and projects;
  • Contributing to the annual planning process for fundraising with the Director of Fundraising and Communications and other members of the LT and using this to feed into objective and target setting for the team;
  • Providing timely advice to Director of Fundraising and Communications and LT members on the grants cycle to ensure funding gaps are foreseen and minimised where possible;
  • Maintaining a current professional knowledge of trust and foundations and individuals fundraising, and identifying appropriate learning opportunities in association with the Director of Fundraising and Communications in order to facilitate this.

Person specification

We are looking for a passionate, determined individual, with the following experience and skills:

ESSENTIAL

  • A minimum of two years’ senior fundraising (management) experience in trust and foundations fundraising, ideally with bid/proposal writing experience for six and seven figure projects;
  • Excellent English communications skills, both written and verbal and the ability to communicate complex information and ideas;
  • Exceptional organisational, project and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure, plan and prioritise work effectively and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple competing priorities and complete work to the highest standard;
  • Proficient in MS Office, especially Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

Personal attributes:

  • Calm under pressure;
  • Team player who will lead from the front and is willing to “roll their sleeves up”;
  • Creative and entrepreneurial in approach;
  • Determined with a desire to achieve results.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience in EU/US based trust and foundation fundraising;
  • Experience of line managing junior staff;
  • Experience in fundraising for climate, environment, social welfare, equality, poverty causes;
  • Experience in statutory fundraising;
  • An understanding and passion for the role of the investment system in driving positive change in corporate behaviour;
  • Experience of using a CRM system in particular Salesforce;
  • A good understanding of GDPR, especially as relates to fundraising.
