ShareAction is a charity and campaigning organisation working to unleash the power of the financial system to drive social progress and protect our environment. We focus on transforming the investment system, using it as a lever to generate positive social and environmental impact in the real world.

We do this by:

  • Educating and working with investors to improve their practices;
  • Influencing the policy-makers and industry regulators that can ensure the investment system serves society’s interests in the long-term;
  • Campaigning to unlock the power of investors, as shareholders in companies, to change corporate behaviour (on issues such as climate change, good work and human rights, sustainable food and public health);
  • Mobilising ordinary people, who have a stake in the investment system through their pensions and savings, to demand a change in how their money is invested;

Job Description

Established in 2016, the Workforce Disclosure Initiative (WDI) has an ambitious vision to transform the quantity and quality of available data on the workforce practices of the world’s largest public companies. It is built around an annual survey of companies (750 companies received the WDI questionnaire last year). The data is analysed by WDI and shared with signatory investors. WDI also facilitates engagement between investors and companies to drive disclosure and improved performance.

WDI’s ultimate purpose is to improve the lives of working people across the world, focusing on the most vulnerable in the global workforce.

As WDI transitions to receiving its income increasingly from investor signatories, it will gain greater operational independence from ShareAction. This presents an opportunity to relaunch WDI, with new energy and focus.

The job holder will play an important role in the new WDI team, leading survey development and implementation, analysis of survey data, research and synthesis of findings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The main responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Maintain and develop WDI’s survey on global workforce issues by soliciting and incorporating feedback from internal and external stakeholders, as appropriate;
  • Conduct analysis on data collected through WDI’s survey and synthesise findings;
  • Lead on research to develop WDI’s knowledge, understanding and perspective on global workforce topics including industrial relations, diversity and inclusion, OHS, wage levels, supply chain and HRDD;
  • Lead research to develop WDI’s knowledge, understanding and perspective on corporate reporting, disclosure and data on ESG topics in particular social issues and workforce topics;
  • Maintain and develop relationships with experts and partner organisation to advance collective knowledge and debate on global workforce topics, ESG reporting and corporate transparency;
  • Generate ideas and develop storylines for articles, reports and other publications to share WDI’s survey findings using sector- or topic-specific cuts as appropriate;
  • Work with the WDI team and external partners to write articles, reports and other publications;
  • Represent WDI and its thought leadership in appropriate external forums to amplify impact;
  • Leverage the support of other WDI team members to surge into research at times of peak activity, for example when producing major reports;
  • Contribute to WDI team activities including project management, monitoring and evaluation, and investor and company engagement.

Person specification

We are looking for a passionate, determined individual, with the following experience and skills:

ESSENTIAL

  • Subject matter expertise on global workforce issues;
  • A good understanding of corporate ESG reporting and data standards;
  • Proven ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate complex information using both quantitative and qualitative research methods;
  • Ability to process and analyse large volumes of data, identifying trends and synthesising findings;
  • Strong English communications skills, with ability to convey potentially complicated research findings in compelling written and spoken communication;
  • Ability to use data visualisation techniques to effectively communicate findings;
  • A team player with strong commitment to collaborative working and ShareAction’s values of accountability and transparency;
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

DESIRABLE

  • Understanding of responsible investment and corporate governance;
  • Experience in campaigning and making change happen in a corporate environment;
  • Interest in non-financial reporting requirements, either in a European or US context;
  • Comfort managing technical platforms to deliver survey tools and working with external vendors to do this;
  • Experience of using Salesforce CRM system.
