ShareAction is a charity and campaigning organisation working to unleash the power of the financial system to drive social progress and protect our environment. We focus on transforming the investment system, using it as a lever to generate positive social and environmental impact in the real world.

We do this by:

  • Educating and working with investors to improve their practices;
  • Influencing the policy-makers and industry regulators that can ensure the investment system serves society’s interests in the long-term;
  • Campaigning to unlock the power of investors, as shareholders in companies, to change corporate behaviour (on issues such as climate change, good work and human rights, sustainable food and public health);
  • Mobilising ordinary people, who have a stake in the investment system through their pensions and savings, to demand a change in how their money is invested;
  • Collaborating with other civil society organisations who share our vision.

Job Description

You will be joining us at an exciting time, when there is strong interest in our methods and in the need to drive powerful financial institutions to decarbonise portfolios and address the impacts of their investments on biodiversity loss.

We are looking for someone with substantial knowledge climate change campaigning. Additional expertise on biodiversity loss would advantageous. You must have a passion for campaigning and for holding powerful institutions accountable for their actions. You will lead and support corporate campaigners and researchers whose work currently encompasses action on the banking sector and fossil fuel companies, our Investor Decarbonisation Initiative, as well as a nascent programme on biodiversity loss. You will support colleagues who lead engagement with institutional investors, policy makers, other NGOs, the media and our funders.


The post holder has specific responsibility for:

  • Setting the strategy for our environmental campaigns, drive decisions on the choice of campaigns and their execution in consultation with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Managing and supervising the work of a team of campaigners and researchers, ensuring they are empowered to lead their own campaigns and research projects while supporting them to deliver effectively as a team;
  • Overseeing and participating in research to ensure the credibility of our demands;
  • Ensuring all administration and reporting requirements for projects are effectively managed, risks are monitored and minimized, and financial budgets are adhered to;
  • Representing ShareAction at events and in the press and develop key stakeholder relationships;
  • Helping to identify and secure new funding for our existing programs and to develop new areas of work with a good alignment to current projects.

Person specification

We are looking for a passionate, determined individual, with the following experience and skills:


  • An excellent understanding of the climate and biodiversity crisis and the risks it presents for companies and investors;
  • Good analytical skills – the ability to quickly get to grips with new and complex subject areas, assimilate information, pull out relevant points and communicate them effectively;
  • Demonstrable programme and project management skills with an ability to manage multiple concurrent projects;
  • Ambitious and determined, capable of exercising considered judgement with demonstrable political ‘nous’;
  • Clear, strategic thinker able to manage competing priorities;
  • Excellent communications and stakeholder management ability, comfortable communicating and influencing at a senior level, and able to flex communication style accordingly;
  • Ability to write persuasively for a range of different audiences;
  • Confidence in acting as a spokesperson at external events and in the media;
  • A team player and excellent people manager with strong commitment to collaborative working and ShareAction’s values of accountability and transparency;
  • Demonstrable understanding or experience of successfully campaigning for change, ideally in the corporate sector.


  • Experience of the NGO sector, either in a voluntary or other capacity;
  • Experience of operating on the senior management team/ leadership team of an organisation;
  • Understanding or experience of successfully campaigning for change;
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office, including SharePoint.
