ShareAction is a charity and campaigning organisation working to unleash the power of the financial system to drive social progress and protect our environment. We focus on transforming the investment system, using it as a lever to generate positive social and environmental impact in the real world.

We do this by:

  • Educating and working with investors to improve their practices;
  • Influencing the policy-makers and industry regulators that can ensure the investment system serves society’s interests in the long-term;
  • Campaigning to unlock the power of investors, as shareholders in companies, to change corporate behaviour (on issues such as climate change, good work and human rights, sustainable food and public health);
  • Mobilising ordinary people, who have a stake in the investment system through their pensions and savings, to demand a change in how their money is invested;
  • Collaborating with other civil society organisations who share our vision.

Job Description

We are looking for someone to support and develop our continuous engagement with institutional investors both in the UK and globallyAsset Managers and Asset Owners (insurers and pensions). While we have specialist teams who engage on specialist topics (climate, human and labour rights, biodiversity, and health), the focus of this role is on the maintenance of relationships through which we can communicate our different initiatives. Coordinating and timing our interactions is a key requirement of this role.

Although your role will be varied and open to some change in the activities you will undertake, below are the types of activities that you can expect to be doing:

  • Proactively communicate with Financial Sector participants, whether in person, on the phone or electronically;
  • Expand our network of financial sector contacts;
  • Promote the latest responsible investment standards we want investors to adhere to;
  • Coordinate interactions of different teams with the same investor;
  • Work closely with our Investor Engagement Manager to ensure senior engagement support is deployed most appropriately;
  • Work closely with our Knowledge and Information Systems Manager to develop and administrate an investor newsletter that will provide periodic updates across campaigns;
  • Lead the documentation of interactions in Salesforce and make sure this done on a ShareAction-wide basis.

Please note that this list isn’t exhaustive and the role might change slightly from time to time

Person specification

We are looking for a passionate, determined individual, with the following experience and skills:

  • An excellent understanding of the financial sector and responsible investment;

  • Experience in relationship management or sales;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication;

  • A proactive and pragmatic approach to work and professional relationships;

  • Exceptional organisational, project and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure, plan and prioritise work effectively and meet deadlines;

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and SharePoint.

  • A demonstrable understanding of ShareAction’s methods and theory of change including an understanding and passion for the role of the investment system in driving positive change in corporate behaviour;
  • Experience of working with CRM systems, ideally Salesforce;
  • Basic knowledge of data protection regulations/GDPR.

ShareAction values and respects all differences in people (seen and unseen). One of the ways we do this is by actively encouraging staff to work in ways that best suit their needs and our flexible working policy outlines many of the options available- such as part-time and term-time working, job sharing, home working and working compressed hours. Please talk to us at the interview about the flexibility you need. We can’t promise to give you exactly what you want, but we do promise not to judge you for asking.

Due to Covid-19 all interviews will take place online, you will also be expected to work from home for the foreseeable future.

Please note that to be considered for this post you must be legally eligible to work in the UK. Due to current restrictions we are unable to hire anyone that isn’t already living in the UK.
Due to our size we are unable to sponsor visas.

How to apply

Please send an up to date CV and cover letter to Pete Uhlenbruch at recruitment@shareaction.org by Monday 12 October 2020 at 9am (please note that we may close this role early depending on the level of response). Please ensure that your cover letter is no more than one side of A4 and that you address all of the criteria in the person specification by giving details of work experience (paid or voluntary), skills and achievements relevant to this post, and any other information to support your application.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community. Note that all personal information will be removed from applications prior to shortlisting which can delay the process in responding to applications.

A bit more about us

ShareAction is a charity which promotes responsible investment by pension funds and other institutional investors. We believe that investment can be a force for good, serving savers and communities, and protecting our environment for the long term. We campaign on specific environmental and social issues that the investment industry has the power to influence, like climate change and workers’ rights. We advocate for policy changes required to enable responsible investment to thrive. We undertake research and rankings to drive up best practice among pension funds and asset managers. And we work with savers to help them push their pension schemes towards more responsible behaviour and sustainable investment practices.
