ShareAction is a charity and campaigning organisation working to unleash the power of the financial system to drive social progress and protect our environment. We focus on transforming the investment system, using it as a lever to generate positive social and environmental impact in the real world.

We do this by:

  • Educating and working with investors to improve their practices;
  • Influencing the policy-makers and industry regulators that can ensure the investment system serves society’s interests in the long-term;
  • Campaigning to unlock the power of investors, as shareholders in companies, to change corporate behaviour (on issues such as climate change, good work and human rights, sustainable food and public health);
  • Mobilising ordinary people, who have a stake in the investment system through their pensions and savings, to demand a change in how their money is invested;
  • Collaborating with other civil society organisations who share our vision.

Job Description

We have a track record of working with corporates and driving change. Current projects include the Investor Decarbonisation Initiative, the Workforce Disclosure Initiative, the UK Living Wage campaign and Healthy Markets. 

The Director of Corporate Engagement reports to the Chief Executive and is a member of ShareAction’s leadership team, which takes collective responsibility for development and delivery of ShareAction’s strategy and business plan.  


The post holder has specific responsibility for:

  • Setting organisation strategy, with the CEO and Leadership Team;
  • Working with the CEO and Leadership Team to effectively lead the organisation, driving high performance and contributing to problem solving;
  • Overseeing ShareAction’s corporate facing programmes of work (currently focussing on climate change, business human rights and food and health). Setting programme strategy, and leading the Heads of Good Work, Climate and Food & Health to deliver those programmes;
  • Managing and developing the Heads of Good Work, Climate and Food & Health, and supporting them to manage a growing team of researchers, investor engagement and company engagement professionals;
  • Upholding ShareAction’s reputation as an expert and independent-minded organisation pursuing the public interest whilst having an unparalleled set of working relationships with fiduciary investors, corporates and civil society on the topics of focus;
  • Representing ShareAction at the highest level at events, including speaking at conferences and to the media;
  • Securing funds (with the Director of Communications and Fundraising and the CEO) to sustain and grow ShareAction’s work;
  • Marshalling investor support, in cooperation with ShareAction’s Policy Team and Investor Engagement Team, for higher mandatory standards and stronger enforcement of regulations that require sustainable investor and corporate behaviour;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of the work of the Corporate facing programmes as part of ShareAction’s commitment to continuous learning and process improvement.

Person specification

We are looking for a passionate, determined individual, with the following experience and skills:


  • Senior experience in either the investment sectorcorporate sustainability or consulting;
  • Experience of managing, growing and developing a highly motivated team;
  • Track record of working closely with or for corporations / investors on a range of environmental, societal and / or governance issues;
  • Strong skills in writing and in presenting publicly;
  • Proven ability in building effective relationships with a range of senior stakeholders;
  • Experience of successful programme planning and the repeated delivery of projects on time and budget;
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.



  • Experience of the NGO sector, either in a voluntary or other capacity;
  • Substantial experience of operating on the senior management team/ leadership team of an organisation;
  • Understanding or experience of successfully campaigning for change;
  • Track record of fundraising or business development and generating income; 
  • Experience of working with Microsoft Office 365, particularly SharePoint;
  • Experience of working with CRM systems, ideally Salesforce;
  • Basic knowledge of data protection regulations / GDPR.
